The Home of Kilns "ookawachiyama


In 1675, they moved from “arita nan gawara” to “ookawachiyama”. They produced “nabeshima” which a gift to Emperor, Shogun and other feudal lord until 1871. There are more than 30 potteries to succeed their technique to “imari yaki” at present.

“Shigesumi”, who was a father of Joucho, was in charge of this section before they moved to here. Moreover, there is the house where Joucho’s mother was born and it is protected by our National Government as Registered Tangible Cultural Properties.

By Railroad : Take JR Nagasaki-Line from JR SAGA station. Transfer at "Arita" station to MR-Line. Get off at the "IMARI" station. 20 minutes by bus.
